WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

• If you intend to display or exhibit an advertisement, you are required under the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (Advertisement) By-laws 1983 to first obtain a licence or permit to do so from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH).

TYPES OF ADVERTISEMENTS PROCESSED

• The type of advertisement display generally processed by KKCH are banner, streamer, billboard and unipole, signboards on building and directional signage.

HOW TO APPLY

• The application form (Form No. BPN.2/01) must be duly completed in duplicate.  The form is free of charge and can be obtained from the Valuation Section, Ground Floor, Kota Kinabalu City Hall Headquarters or download from this site.

•  A sample of the advertisement must be submitted together with the application form.  This sample must first be endorsed by the Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBP).

•  The completed application form shall be submitted to the Valuation Section.

WHAT MUST BE SHOWN

•  Message on the advertisement must be short and simple.

• The permit number must be written clearly on the advertisement.  In the case of a banner or streamer, the last day of exhibition of the banner or streamer must also be written.

LOCATION OF ADVERTISEMENT

•  The location where the advertisement is to be placed is subject to KKCH’s confirmation, and also the Public Works Department for directional signage.

•  For signboard on building and directional signage, the proposed location where the signboard is to be erected must be in accordance with the KKCH (Advertisement) By-laws 1983 and KKCH’s prevailing guidelines.

• Permission or consent must be obtained from the owner or management of the building, structure, or place where the banner or streamer is to be displayed.  Hence, the owner or management must sign on the application form in the space provided.

LICENCE FEE

• For banner and streamer, the licence fee depends on the size, the duration (number of days) of display and the total number of banners or streamers.  Table 1 below gives the rate chargeable.

• A sum of RM 25.00 is required as a deposit for each banner or streamer.  This deposit will be refunded to the applicant after the banner or streamer is removed by the applicant after the expiry date.

• For signboard on building, directional signage, billboard and unipole, the licence fee also depends on the size as shown in Table 2 below.

• A sum equivalent to half the prescribed fee or three hundred ringgit whichever is the lesser, but not less than RM25.00, is required as a deposit for the signboard, directional signage, billboard or unipole. This deposit will be refunded to the applicant after the signboard is removed by the applicant after the expiry date.
